Bevyn Howard
Grant Writing | Rhetoric | Non-Profits | Advocacy
Welcome to my corner of the fundraising world! My name is Bevyn Howard and I am a passionate grant writer with a unique ability to transform complex concepts into compelling, understandable narratives. With an academic background in rhetoric and storytelling, I bring a powerful blend of creativity, precision, and strategic thinking to every project I undertake.
Fundraising Success
I have helped manage a $6M organization by winning $3M+ per year in foundation funding through multiple six-figure grants, including many totaling $500,000+ at Freedom of the Press Foundation. I have also won over $1.5M in grant funding with a 64% ”win” rate (2021), including 48% from first-time funders, through data-driven storytelling at BridgeYear.
In addition to my nonprofit roles, I also co-own B&R Mixed Media LLC with my husband Richy, where we provide professional photography services.
Advocacy and Impact
Beyond grant writing, I am deeply committed to advocacy work, particularly in the areas of reproductive rights and social justice. As an undergrad, I completed my thesis on “White Feminism” and the ways white women perpetuate racism within the feminist movement. In 2021, I was also a Next Gen Abortion Advocate with Avow Texas.
Pictured is the poster summary of my undergraduate thesis on racism within modern feminism.
Professional Experience
My professional journey has been deeply rooted within the nonprofit sector, where I have had the privilege of working with remarkable organizations such as Freedom of the Press Foundation (FPF) and BridgeYear.
As Grants Manager at FPF, I crafted new grant narratives, designed professional marketing materials, and managed donor communications. This role honed my ability to sustain a $6 million dollar organization through persuasive proposals that resonated with funders.
Prior to this, I secured $1.5 million in grant funding as the Development & Communications Manager at BridgeYear. My work involved extensive marketing prowess, prospect research, and donor stewardship.
Due to autoimmune issues, I left my full-time job at FPF in March 2024 to focus on health.
"Bevyn has a compelling voice and writing style that does an excellent job bringing the mission to life. Her grants are research-backed and always written in clear, concise, and compelling language to ensure our organization's message resonates deeply with our stakeholders."

Education and Recognition
I hold a Bachelor of Arts in Rhetoric and Writing with Honors from the University of Texas at Austin. Additionally, I was a Student Research Fellow at the Center for the Study of Race and Democracy, where I furthered my understanding of critical race issues.
My professional excellence earned me a nomination for Nonprofit Marketer of the Year in 2021 by the American Marketing Association Foundation.
